Well, if you have your hosting with HostGator, chances are that there is an easy fix. Let me tell you what happened to me today.
I woke up this morning and the first thing I noticed when I turned on my laptop was that my primary business website was gone. This very website was completely gone. The Url was still there, but I lost over 70 posts and 5 pages. All my sidebar information was intact, but [b]I lost all my content[/b].
Needless to say, I wasn’t happy! I had been working on this site since October ’09 and had Google Page Rank and lots of content. I checked my backup and the last time I backed up was in June. So, I thought that I would restore my site and at least get most of my content back.
But, before I did anything, I called HostGator Customer Service, and I found out a couple of things I wanted to pass on. First of all, the Customer Service rep that I worked with, VJ, was able to completely restore my site. It took about 15 minutes. So, that was totally awesome.
I found out that they back up their servers on Sunday and they save a copy of your, in this case my, site… as of that day. If VJ had not been able to fix my site, I could have paid $15 to have my site restored from their servers. And, that’s what I would have done had she not been able to back up my site. If I had made a post after last Sunday, only that post would have been lost.
So, remember to back-up your sites; but if you forget, don’t panic. Just call HostGator Customer Support and they will help you restore your site.
